Who We Are...

Dr. Peter Anton and Dr. Ian McGowan are both physicians and researchers, and serve as co-directors of the Center for Prevention Research (CPR). Seven staff members at UCLA and dozens of collaborators worldwide support their work.

Peter A. Anton, MD

Dr. Anton is a professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA, and the Founding Director of the Center for Prevention Research. He was the Director of the UCLA Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Clinical and Research Center, and currently practices gastroenterology at the UCLA Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve, and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1977.

Ian McGowan, MD, PhD

Dr. McGowan is a professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and the co-Director of the Center for Prevention Research. He currently serves as the co-Director of the NIH-sponsored Microbicide Trials Network (MTN), and has acted as a consultant for microbicide development for the World Health Organization and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He holds an MD from the University of Liverpool UK, and his PhD was completed at Merton College, Oxford University, 1994.
